Łukašenka approves procedure for putting economy on war footing

January 16, Pozirk. Alaksandar Łukašenka by his Edict No 29 dated January 15 approved the economy ministry as the agency in charge of putting the country on a war footing.
The edict has been published on the National Legal Internet Portal.
The edict has entered into force today amid increasing tensions with the West and ongoing Russia’s war on Ukraine, a week before the Belarus’ presidential election, in which Łukašenka, in power since 1994, is determined to secure one more five-year term in office.
The document defines “the mobilization preparation of the economy” as “measures taken in peacetime” to prepare for defending “sovereignty, independence, territorial integrity and constitutional order of the Republic of Belarus and to meet the needs of the state and the needs of the population in wartime.”
A full or partial mobilization is “a set of measures to switch over the economy of the Republic of Belarus, state bodies and organizations to work in wartime conditions, including a set of military mobilization measures,” according to the current Belarusian legislation.
