October 26, BPN. The Minsk City Court has sentenced investigative journalist Siarhiej Sacuk, 54, editor in chief of Yezhednevnik, to eight years in prison, a term requested by the prosecutor.
His trial opened on September 23. Authorities accused him of inciting hatred, abusing his power and taking bribes.
The journalist has been in custody since December 2021. Human rights groups declared him a political prisoner.
Earlier this year, authorities sentenced journalists Kaciaryna Andrejeva and Ksenija Łuckina to eight years in prison each.
Currently, 32 media workers are behind bars in Belarus, the Belarusian Association of Journalists (BAJ) said.
