Cichanoŭskaja shares her suggestions on international support for Belarus with officials in Iceland

October 11, BPN. Śviatłana Cichanoŭskaja has handed a list of suggestions that can be used during Iceland’s presidency of the Council of Europe to officials and MPs in that country, Cichanoŭskaja’s press office reports.

The Belarusian opposition leader proposed measures to support Belarus’ civil society, simplify Belarusians’ migration, rehabilitate political prisoners’ children and investigate crimes of the Łukašenka regime. She called on the Council of Europe to invite opposition politicians to the council’s May summit.

During her visit to Iceland, Cichanoŭskaja met with Prime Minister Katrín Jakobsdóttir, Foreign Minister Thórdís Kolbrún Reykfjörd Gylfadóttir, Althing Speaker Birgir Ármannsson, MPs and the First Lady, Eliza Reid.

She told the Reykjavik Global Forum (Women Leaders) “about the role of women in Belarusian protests and about political prisoners,” the press office said.

Iceland took over the presidency of the Council of Europe on November 9.
