Over 200 medics lose jobs over politics, activists say

November 16, BPN. At least 205 Belarusian medics have lost their jobs for political reasons, activist group Belyye Khalaty has said, without specifying the timeframe.

The state filed criminal cases against at least 17 medics, it said, quoting the Belarusian Medical Solidarity Foundation.

The lightest sentence was 18 months of restricted freedom, a type of home confinement. The heaviest was six years in prison.

Belarus faces an acute shortage of medical personnel, but the authorities continue to persecute doctors for impiety, the group said.
