Belarusians at home and abroad prefer online news – survey
November 16, BPN. Belarusians at home and abroad prefer to get news online rather than from print and broadcast sources, a survey has revealed.
Belarusian media consultant Michaił Daraševič performed the online survey in October under the aegis of the Baltic Internet Policy Initiative. He presented the results at a conference in Warsaw on November 16.
YouTube was named among the preferred news sources by 52 percent of respondents in Belarus and by 70 percent of respondents abroad. Other social networks, by 50 and 41 percent, respectively. Online media, by 50 and 27 percent. Telegram accounts, by 40 and 33 percent. Television, by 36 and 34 percent. Word of mouth, by 32 and 23 percent. Online forums and blogs, by 17 and 26 percent. Radio, by 13 and 29 percent. Print media, only by 7 and 13 percent.
Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, VK and Odnoklassniki were among social networks popular with news followers.
Top 15 most popular television programs included six Russian “information and analysis” shows, and one Belarusian state-sponsored “news” program.
