Movement for Freedom activists intimidated

November 22, BPN. Law enforcers have searched and interrogated former members and supporters of the defunct opposition Movement for Freedom, which was shut down on November 19, 2021.

Specifically, reports of a crackdown came from Homiel, the movement’s members abroad said in a statement.

Law enforcement agencies are looking for information about the movement’s activity in Belarus, the statement reads.

The regime sticks to the policy of intimidation and lawlessness, its authors said. They called on the international community “to step up pressure on the regime, which continues to violate the rights of Belarusian citizens.”

The Movement for Freedom was established on the wave of Alaksandr Milinkievič’s presidential campaign in 2006. It was registered by the justice ministry in 2008, and liquidated by the Supreme Court 13 years later.
