November 24, BPN. Unit 2 is to begin commercial operation at the Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) in the first quarter of 2023, Deputy Prime Minister Piotr Parchomčyk told Belarusian MPs at a joint session of both houses of the National Assembly.
Unit 2 is 97 percent ready and its main and auxiliary equipment is currently undergoing start-up operations, he added.
The Belarusian NPP is located near Astraviec, Hrodna region, some 10 miles away from the Lithuanian border. Designed by Russia’s Rosatom, it has also been built with a Russian loan. Lithuania views the plant as unsafe and describes it as a “geopolitical weapon.”
