Belarus border guards say found migrant’s body on Poland border

November 24, BPN. The Belarusian State Border Committee on November 24 said that it had found a foreigner’s corpse near the fence built by the Polish border guards on the border.

“A border unit found the body of an African-looking man yesterday, November 23, near the Polish barrier. The foreigner’s corpse was lying near the gate intended for animals’ migration,” the committee said in a news release.

Investigators were called to the scene, it added.

Five migrants died on the Polish border this year, it claimed.

The migration crisis at the Belarusian-EU border dates back to the spring of 2021. It escalated on November 8, 2021, when thousands of migrants set up a camp near the Polish border.

The Baltic states and Poland accused Belarusian authorities of creating the trouble, while the latter blamed it on the West. Migration figures had dropped significantly by the time Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, but have risen more recently.
