Lavrov postpones his visit to Minsk over Belarusian FM’s death

November 27, BPN. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has postponed his visit to Minsk following the death of his Belarusian counterpart Uładzimir Makiej, Russian foreign ministry’s press office reported. 

A joint meeting of the two ministries’ boards has also been postponed.

The new dates of Lavrov’s visit and board meeting will be additionally announced, it noted.

Makiej died suddenly on November 26 aged 64.

Lavrov was to meet with Makiej and Alaksandr Łukašenka on November 27 and 28. 

The foreign ministries’ boards planned to discuss foreign policy issues, coordination of actions with respect to the EU, NATO, and the Council of Europe as well as “countering politicization of international relations by the West.”
