Ukraine expects Russia to reinforce troops by units trained in Belarus

November 28, BPN. The Ukrainian defense ministry expects that Russia would reinforce its troops by new units trained in Belarus, its recent report said.

Oleksiy Arestovych, an adviser to the Ukrainian presidential office, said earlier that Russia planned reinforcements in eastern and southern Ukraine instead of preparing a second invasion of northern Ukraine from Belarusian territories.

At the same time, he noted that the Russian command might be planning an attack from Belarus on Ukraine in one way or another, possibly targeting Kyiv or the Volyn region.

Russia does not have enough troops capable of invading Ukraine from Belarus, according to the Ukrainian defense ministry’s intelligence department.

Russian soldiers started arriving in Belarus on October 15 following Alaksandr Łukašenka’s announcement that Belarus and Russia would deploy a joint regional group in response to “a build-up on the Union State’s western borders.”
