Prosecutor demands 12 years’ imprisonment for activists suspected of identifying officers responsible for brutality

January 10, BPN. The prosecutor has requested that alleged administrators of Chernaya Kniga Belarusi (Black Book of Belarus), an online project exposing the identities of security officers who mistreated and brutalized peaceful protesters, be sentenced to 12 years in prison, the Viasna Human Rights Center reports.

The trial of Janina Sazanovič, Daniił Bahdanovič, Dźmitry Navoša, Volha Vysockaja and Valeryja Zaniamonskaja opened in the Minsk City Court on December 12 without the defendants being present.

They are charged with incitement to hatred and illegal handling of personal data. The Committee for State Security (KGB) has added them to its terrorist register.

A judge is expected to read out a verdict on January 17.
