Belarusian investigators suspect exiled policeman of high treason

January 13, BPN. The Investigative Committee says it has opened a special procedure case against “a member of terrorist organization BYPOL.”

Telegram channel Spetsialnoye Proizvodstvo. Ofitsialno identifies him as Stanisłaŭ Łupanosaŭ. He is suspected of committing three criminal offences: high treason, abuse of power and unauthorized copying of data from a computer system.

Łupanosaŭ served with the interior ministry’s Main Directorate for Fight Against Organized Crime and Corruption. He resigned and left the country after the 2020 presidential election. Belarus put him on its list of persons involved in terrorist activities.

A member of the BYPOL association of former security forces, Łupanosaŭ is the 18th person targeted by the committee under special procedure, meaning that a judge is likely to try him in absentia to annul his passport.
