Belarusian economy estimated to have shrunk by 4.7 percent in 2022

January 18, BPN. Preliminary estimates suggest that Belarus’ gross domestic product amounted to 191.4 billion rubels (some $72.5 billion at the current exchange rate) in 2022, a 4.7 percent decrease from 2021 in comparable prices, the National Statistics Committee has said.

In July, Alaksandr Łukašenka demanded that the government should prevent GDP from falling below the 2021 level. Half a year earlier, he had expected the economy to grow by 2.9 percent in 2022.

Belarus plans to increase economic output to 3.8 percent in 2023.
