Freedom and democracy will win in Belarus – Polish president

January 24, BPN. Freedom, democracy and the will to self-determination will prevail in Belarus, Polish President Andrzej Duda said at a ceremony marking the 160th anniversary of the 1863 uprising in the former Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth.

The peaceful struggle of Belarusians for what belongs to them by the right to self-determination in their own land may lead them to freedom, he added.

Ukraine will win because of the support of its “brotherly nations,” Lithuanians and Belarusians, as well as other allies who are part of the free democratic world, Duda stressed.

“The Ukrainian people will be able to rebuild their homeland,” he noted. “[It will be] even more beautiful and modern than the one attacked by the Russian barbarian.”

Belarusian opposition leader Sviatłana Cichanoŭskaja attended the event and later met with Duda and Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda, her press office said. Among other topics, they discussed ways to help Belarusian activists and victims of politically-motivated persecution.
