Belarusian, Russian athletes banned from 2023 European Games

January 27, BPN. Belarusian and Russian athletes will not be allowed to compete in the upcoming 2023 European Games, scheduled for June 9-25 in Krakow, Poland, the European Olympic Committee (EOC) said.

“Any possible solutions with regard to the potential participation of athletes from Russia and Belarus in EOC competition would not include the European Games Krakow Malopolska 2023,” its statement reads.

In November 2022, the EOC said that participation of Belarusian and Russian athletes was ” impossible under the current circumstances.”

On January 25, the Executive Board of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) confirmed sanctions against Belarus and Russia introduced earlier over Russia’s war in Ukraine and Belarusian authorities’ complicity in it.
