Investments in Chinese-Belarusian hi-tech hub have not paid off – manager

January 29, BPN. Investments in Chinese-Belarusian hi-tech hub Great Stone have not paid off, the hub’s manager Alaksandr Jarašenka has told the STV television channel.

“If you mean the aggregate of all costs, they have not paid off so far, because more than $800 million was invested in this project. That’s a lot of money,” the Belarusian functionary said.

But “when it comes to the budget of the Republic of Belarus, we have already recouped our costs,” Jarašenka added. He noted that “more than $37.5 million” had been allocated from the national budget.

Great Stone is a special economic zone stretching 112.5 square kilometers, located 25 km outside Minsk. The agreement to create the hub was signed in 2011. Three years later, the first resident was registered, and construction began.
