Belarus down in 2022 Corruption Perceptions Index

February 1, BPN. Corruption in Belarus has worsened over the past year, says the 2022 Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) compiled annually by Berlin-based NGO Transparency International.

The CPI shows perceived levels of corruption by experts and businesses. It ranks 180 countries and territories on a scale from 100 (very clean) to 0 (highly corrupt).

Belarus scored 39 points in 2022, ranking 91st together with Colombia and Moldova. It slipped nine places since 2021.

Russia with 28 points and Ukraine with 33 ranked below Belarus at 137th and 116th positions, respectively. Poland ranked 45th with 55 points; Latvia, 39th with 59 points; and Lithuania 33rd with 62 points.

Denmark tops the 2022 CPI with 90 points. The top ten include New Zealand and Finland (88 points each), Norway (84), Singapore and Sweden (83 each), Switzerland (82), the Netherlands (80), Germany (79), Ireland and Luxembourg (77 each).

Somalia (12 points), Syria and South Sudan (13 each), Venezuela (14) and Yemen (16) ranked the lowest.
