Defense ministry says army upgraded military equipment in 2022

February 5, BPN. The Belarusian Armed Forces upgraded their military equipment in 2022, Major General Andrej Fiedzin has told VoenTV.

The army equipped its cross-country vehicles with large-caliber machine guns and anti-tank missile systems, he added. The official also noted the Belarus-made R-414MBRP radio relay station, as well as monitoring, reconnaissance, surveillance and targeting equipment and anti-drone weapons.

The troops also reportedly received Russian-made armaments, including BTR-82A armored personnel carriers as well as Tor-M2, S-400 and Inkander missile systems.

States bordering Belarus keep building up their military capacities and Belarus has to respond adequately, Fiedzin stressed.

In February 2022, Russia started a full-scale war against Ukraine. Alaksandr Łukašenka admitted that Belarus participated in Russia’s war on Ukraine, but said it was “not killing anyone.”

Authorities in Minsk denied Belarusian army troops’ involvement in combat operations on the Russian side. However, Belarus allowed Russian troops and weapons to move freely through the country, use its airspace, refuel and store military equipment and attack Ukraine from its territory.
