Łukašenka appoints Air/Air Defense deputy commander

February 23, BPN. Alaksandr Łukašenka has signed an edict to appoint Colonel Leanid Davidovič as deputy commander of the Belarusian Air/Air Defense Forces, the Belarusian leader’s press office said in a news release on February 23.

Baranavičy’s newspaper Naš Kraj wrote last year that on May 24, Davidovič headed 61 Fighter Air Base. It had been his first duty station, where he flew MiG-29s and reached the rank of lieutenant colonel.

In 2005-2007, the native of Baranavičy studied at the Gagarin Air Force Academy near Moscow. In 2010, he headed an aviation squadron.

In 2016-2018, Davidovič studied at the Military Academy of the Russian Armed Forces’ General Staff. He was appointed commander of 61 Fighter Air Base aged 44, after serving in the main operational directorate of the General Staff.

It is unclear when he was awarded the rank of colonel.
