Belarus votes against UN resolution calling for Russia’s withdrawal from Ukraine

February 24, BPN. Belarus voted against the UN General Assembly resolution demanding the withdrawal of Russian troops from Ukraine and calling for peace.

Russia, Eritrea, North Korea, Mali, Nicaragua, and Syria also voted against the document proposed by Ukraine and marking one year since the start of Russia’s full-scale war against it.

The resolution received overwhelming support from 141 countries, including Afghanistan, Serbia, Moldova and Georgia, with 32 abstentions, among them China.

Belarus did not succeed in amending the draft resolution and removing the requirement for Russia’s immediate and unconditional withdrawal from Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders.

The European Union’s foreign policy chief Josep Borrell accused Belarus of trying to create confusion. He described the proposed amendments as “not made in good faith” and “manipulative since they do not reflect the situation on the ground, which is the unjustified and unprovoked aggression by one member state against another.”
