Territorial defense forces start four-day drills in Hrodna region

April 18, BPN. Territorial defense command-staff exercises are taking place in the Navahrudak and Kareličy districts, Hrodna region, from April 18 to 21, the defense ministry’s press office reports.

Since March 31, authorities have been training territorial defense and military command in both districts.

Territorial troops together with interior ministry forces and emergency response units will practice protecting civilian facilities, maintaining martial law and tracking down “sabotage, reconnaissance and illegal armed groups,” the ministry said.

A people’s militia unit from the Navahrudak district is also involved in the drills, it added.

Territorial troops are formed of reservists and are called up in wartime or in times of military and political tensions to assist the army.
