Opposition politician defends tough approach to sanctions on Łukašenka’s regime

April 18, BPN. Alaksandr Łukašenka’s regime should be deprived of resources “to carry out both internal and external terror and aggression,” National Anti-Crisis Management (NAM) head Pavieł Łatuška said in a video message on April 17.

Using pressure to force Łukašenka to start negotiations is not working, the politician said, noting continuing reprisals in the country. Instead, the strategy should focus on sanctions as “civilized weapons” to destabilize, defeat and force the regime to capitulate, he stressed.

“We can’t give up on sanctions and lay down our arms if we want to win,” Łatuška said.

On March 26, the European Union’s foreign policy chief Josep Borrell said that the EU was ready to respond with further sanctions in response to the deployment of Russian nuclear weapons in Belarus.
