Senior diplomat accuses EU, USA of “arbitrary” sanctions against Belarus
April 19, BPN. The European Union and the United States imposed sanctions against “the Belarusian government and people” in violation of all international laws, Belarusian Deputy Foreign Minister Juryj Ambrazievič has told the meeting of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) in Geneva.
“The future of multilateral cooperation under the auspices of the United Nations, as well as the role and importance of the organization [UN] itself, are called into question by politicians,” the diplomat said.
Decades of positive developments are “on the verge of destruction,” he added, noting that the UNECE violates its mandate by dealing with politics and security.
Belarus is confident that the UNECE will promote economic development and integration in the region without new dividing lines despite attempts to exclude and limit the participation of some countries in its work, the diplomat said. “Belarus is convinced that there is no alternative to a multipolar world order,” he noted.
Belarus is ready to trade with any country, including the Western countries, “despite the unprecedented external pressure” but will not give up its national interests, principles and values, Ambrazievič stressed.
