Lithuania sends protest note to Belarus’ embassy over border violations

April 20, BPN. The Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs handed over a protest note to the Belarusian embassy in Vilnius in connection with “deliberate and systematic violations of the state border.”

The note cites recent cases of violations of the Lithuanian border by Belarusian border guards on April 12 and 18 and urges Belarus to provide explanations and prevent similar incidents.

The Belarusian State Border Committee denied the incidents. The area of the state border in question has “certain features” allegedly distorting “the true location of the Belarusian serviceman on surveillance cameras,” it said.

Belarusian border authorities accused Lithuania of intentions to “discredit the Belarusian side and exacerbate the situation on the border under any pretext.”
