Belarusians in Sudan may need assistance amid unrest
April 20, BPN. Ten Belarusian nationals are currently present in Khartoum, the capital of Sudan, a spokesman for the foreign ministry has said on Facebook.
The Belarusian embassy in Egypt “maintains contact with them, providing consultation and other assistance,” Anatol Hłaz said. Diplomats managed to bring two of them to “relative safety in the Russian embassy,” he added.
He went on to say that the seven-member strong Belarusian crew of an aircraft of the Belcanto cargo airline is relatively far removed from the epicenter of the fighting, but it would be extremely dangerous to leave the site.
MotolkoPomogi, a Belarusian blog on the Telegram messaging app, reports that “Belcanto Airlines’ Belarusian aircraft was destroyed in Sudan.” The blog identifies it as flight EW-576TH.
On April 17, the Belarusian foreign ministry advised Belarusians against visiting the conflict-torn African country.
