Defense ministry announces “seasonal” improvements to ICBM sites
April 23, BPN. Soldiers in Belarus began “seasonal work to improve facilities where units of the strategic missile forces used to be based,” the defense ministry said on April 23.
“Personnel are carrying out landscaping work after the winter period, as well as other activities aimed at maintaining infrastructure in proper condition,” it said.
It specified that the infrastructure had hosted Topol intercontinental ballistic-missile mobile launchers from 1961 to 1994.
Last month, Vladimir Putin said a special storage facility for tactical nuclear weapons would be constructed in Belarus by July 1.
The Russian envoy in Minsk, Boris Gryzlov, soon said the facility would be stationed near the western borders.
The West and Belarusian democratic forces denounced the upcoming deployment, while China opposed using nuclear weapons or fighting nuclear wars.
Belarus renounced its non-nuclear status following the 2022 constitutional referendum.
