Łukašenka calls Homiel, Brest frontline regions, says doesn’t want to fight

April 28, BPN. “I don’t want to go to war,” Alaksandr Łukašenka said during a trip to Vietka, Homiel region, on April 28

“I’m always surprised when they start talking about war,” Łukašenka said, as quoted by his press office. “People are anxious there in Homel. Yes, Homiel and Brest have become frontline regions. But that does not mean that someone is going to go to war with us.” But he added that “there are enough crazy people.”

Russia has repeatedly struck Ukraine from Belarusian territory, where it has an increased military presence. It used Belarus as a launchpad for its February 2022 offensive on Kyiv. At the same time, Minsk says that Belarusian troops are not directly involved in hostilities in Ukraine.
