Rubel down 6.3 percent against dollar at cash exchange offices in January-April

May 2, BPN. The Belarusian currency weakened by 6.3 percent against the US dollar at cash exchange offices in the first four months of 2023, the BPN’s analysis of quotes announced by Belarusian banks’ head offices showed.

In January, the rubel rose by 1.69 percent against the dollar but dropped by 4.6 percent in February with decline slowing down to 1.8 and 1.5 percent in March and April, respectively.

The average dollar purchase rate rose by 1.35 percent in April, from 2.8308 to 2.8690 rubels. The average selling rate went up by 1.61 percent, from 2.8641 to 2.9103.

The Belarusian rubel weakened by 5.03 percent against the dollar in 2022 after a rise by 1.99 percent in 2021. In 2020, it depreciated against the dollar by 23.94 percent.
