Russia’s nukes in Belarus to become NATO’s priority target – Ukrainian pundit
May 3, BPN. Russian tactical nuclear weapons will be NATO’s priority target in if stationed in Belarus, Ukrainian military expert Oleg Zhdanov told BPN.
Belarusians need to be aware of the dangers of having such weapons in their country as NATO may attack their storage sites with Tridents, submarine-launched ballistic missiles with nuclear warheads, he noted.
“[Vladimir] Putin is the one who is scared the most of strengthening [Alaksandr] Łukašenka’s positions” and will do his best to avoid giving Belarusian ruler control over nuclear weapons in Belarus, the pundit added. He assessed the probability of Russian nuclear weapons deployment in Belarus as remote and its potential use as “equal to zero.”
The West will do everything possible to prevent nuclear weapons deployment in Belarus as it fears possible consequences of its use, Zhdanov added.
On March 25, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that a special storage facility for tactical nuclear weapons would be completed in Belarus by July 1.
