Venezuela’s foreign minister visiting Belarus

October 16, Pozirk. Venezuela’s Foreign Minister Yvan Gil Pinto has met his Belarusian counterpart Siarhiej Alejnik in Minsk, the Belarusian Foreign Ministry’s press office said on X.

In the early 2010s, Belarus agreed on crude oil supplies from Venezuela via Ukraine and Estonia. Authorities stopped importing oil from Venezuela after two years citing unprofitability and cheaper oil from Russia.

In the spring of 2023, investigative journalists from Belarus and Venezuela reported that Belarus still owes Venezuela about $1.5 billion for crude oil purchased in the 2010s.

In late June, Belarusian envoy Andrej Mołčan reportedly discussed cooperation in the petrochemical sector with the Venezuelan Oil Minister Pedro Rafael Tellechea.
