Foreign ministry, Red Cross committee sign joint action plan for 2024
January 31, Pozirk. Deputy Foreign Minister Juryj Ambrazievič and the head of the International Committee of the Red Cross delegation in Belarus, Sebastian Fustier, have signed a joint action plan for 2024, the Belarusian foreign ministry reported.
The action plan, which was inked in Minsk, provides for an exchange of experience between Belarusian government agencies and organizations and committee experts in dealing with migrants, international humanitarian law, emergency preparedness and the promotion of the Red Cross movement.
The committee, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, and the National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies comprise the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.
The deal comes just one month after the federation suspended the Belarusian Red Cross as a member.
The International Committee continues its operation in the country. Its website advertised a vacancy for a protection specialist whose duties would include developing and maintaining contacts with the Belarusian Red Cross.
The federation stopped cooperating with the Belarusian Red Cross because it had failed to comply with its order to dismiss Secretary General Dźmitryj Šaŭcoŭ over his alleged involvement in the deportation of children from Ukraine and controversial comments about Russian nuclear weapons.
