{"id":100146,"date":"2024-08-12T13:14:45","date_gmt":"2024-08-12T10:14:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/en\/news\/100146\/"},"modified":"2026-03-09T20:10:49","modified_gmt":"2026-03-09T20:10:49","slug":"lithuania-to-sue-belarus-over-illegal-migration","status":"publish","type":"articles","link":"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/en\/news\/100146\/","title":{"rendered":"Lithuania to sue Belarus over illegal migration"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>August 12, <em>Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> The Lithuanian government will allocate \u20ac64,400 to cover the costs of litigation relating to alleged transfers of migrants from Belarus, <em>Delfi<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.delfi.lt\/ru\/news\/politics\/na-sudebnye-izderzhki-s-belarusyu-o-nezakonnom-vvoze-migrantov-v-litvu-vydeleno-pochti-65-000-evro-120042624\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In April last year, Vilnius approved the justice ministry&#8217;s proposal to bring the Belarusian government to justice for orchestrating a migration crisis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lithuanian officials want to hold Minsk accountable for making false promises to migrants and facilitating their illegal entry in the European Union, it added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Earlier, media reported that Vilnius planned to sue Minsk for failing to implement a protocol on illegal migrant transfers, which complements the UN Convention Against Transnational Organized Crime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Lithuanian justice ministry was planning to take the lawsuit to an international court.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dictators are not immune to international law, Justice Minister Ewelina Dobrowolska said in April 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Those responsible for facilitating illegal migration must pay damages, she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Illegal migration incidents rose from 8,106 in 2021 to 10,599 in 2022, the Lithuanian justice ministry said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The migration crisis at the Belarusian-European border has been ongoing since the spring of 2021.
