August 17, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> The Polish Border Guard stopped 1,009 illegal entries from Belarus between August 1 and 15, according to official statistics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That is 78 percent more than in the 15 days of July and 42 percent less than in the same period last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On June 13, Poland introduced a buffer zone on the border with Belarus to reduce migratory pressure, for 90 days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the first 15 days of August, the European Union prevented 1,292 border violations from Belarus, including 268 to Latvia and 15 to Lithuania. The figure rose 15 percent from the 15 days of July. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

That also represents an annual decrease of 46 percent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A total of 26,825 cases have been reported since the beginning of the year, including 22,568 in Poland, 3,876 in Latvia and 381 in Lithuania.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
