August 17, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Restrictions on Belarusian fertilizer exports have exacerbated food shortages and hunger in the poorest countries, Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka told the India-hosted Voice of Global South Summit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The West provokes conflicts that generate massive refugee flows and then “cynically blames the Global South and us for the migration crisis,” \u0141uka\u0161enka told the online event today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to his press office, he accused the West of siphoning off resources and imposing unequal exchange on developing countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Colonialism collapsed more than half a century ago, but that did not make the so-called Third World truly free, he said. Their economic and technological dependence on the former colonizers remains in many ways, he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He offered summit participants food, industrial products and technologies, “including digital,” as well as advanced healthcare, “including telemedicine and personnel training services.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We already have experience in effectively contributing to the progress of several Global South countries and their industrialization, in improving the quality and standard of living of their populations,” \u0141uka\u0161enka asserted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He cited Zimbabwe as an example.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The main importers of Belarusian potash are Brazil, China and India.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In May 2023, UN Secretary-General Ant\u00f3nio Guterres spoke out against sanctions on Belarusian and Russian fertilizer exports. He said he had discussed with Russian and Ukrainian leaders the food crisis in Senegal, Niger and Nigeria as a result of the war in Ukraine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The sanctions on the export and transportation of Belarusian potassium chloride were introduced in 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Officials in Minsk often cite global hunger levels as an argument against the restrictions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarusian pro-democracy forces oppose their lifting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
