August 19, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> The international humanitarian fund set up by the opposition leader \u015aviat\u0142ana Cichano\u016dskaja will prioritize support to victims of politically-motivated persecution who remain in Belarus, her press office reported, citing her aide Franak Via\u010dorka.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The fund will help families of reprisal victims and political prisoners, including medical and psychological assistance to all those who have faced persecution in Belarus, he has said in a video address timed to coincide with World Humanitarian Day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Human rights groups are in charge of operating the fund, while Cichano\u016dskaja is focusing on fundraising, the politician noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cichano\u016dskaja came up with the fund\u2019s idea after jailed Belarusian human rights champion Ale\u015b Bialacki was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2022. She announced its launch in late April, rallying the support of Norway and Sweden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Reprisal victims in Belarus require more assistance, Via\u010dorka stressed, calling on other countries to contribute to the fund and urging Belarusian communities abroad to promote it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
