August 23, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Human rights defenders have designated seven people as political prisoners, bringing the total to 1,377, the Viasna Human Rights Center reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Two of them, Jahor Vo\u0142ka\u016d and Ihar Na\u017eeje\u016d, were sentenced under a combined total of three Criminal Code articles, the ones against violent disorder, extremism funding and extremism support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The status was also granted to Anton Stankievi\u010d, Alaksiej Kisialo\u016d, Natalla \u017dyhar, Natalla Davydulina and Vital Leskaviec, remanded in custody pending trial.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They faced a combined total of four charges: extremism funding, extremism support, extremism training and mercenarism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The authorities use imprisonment and criminal prosecution for protest activities to suppress social and political activism, dissent and anti-war demonstrations, the human rights activists said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They demanded freedom for these and all other political prisoners and an end to reprisals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
