August 26, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> A full-scale offensive from the Belarusian direction would be impossible as less than 1,000 Belarusian servicemen are deployed near the border with Ukraine, Andriy Kovalenko, who heads the Ukrainian Center for Countering Disinformation, has told RBC Ukraine<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka is trying\u00a0to help Vladimir Putin by diverting some Ukrainian forces and inflating perceived threats through propaganda, he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAll this information noise is also directed at Russia because \u0141uka\u0161enka has to show Putin that he is doing something,” the official noted. “As a cunning politician, he is trying to mislead Putin.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yesterday, following the Ukrainian foreign ministry\u2019s statement calling on Belarus not to make \u201ctragic mistakes\u201d under Russia\u2019s pressure, Kovalenko called the risks of an incursion from Belarus \u201cpurely informational.” Ukrainian defense forces are in full control of the situation, he stressed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Diplomats in Kyiv, however, sounded alarm over troops buildup in Belarus\u2019 Homiel region under the guise of drills, including tanks, artillery, multiple rocket launchers, air defense systems and engineering equipment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Their statement came as Russian troops were continuing their advance on Pokrovsk, a Ukrainian logistics hub in Donbas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
