August 27, <\/strong>Pozirk<\/strong>. <\/em>The European Union (EU) has not allowed at least 82 migrants to enter illegally from Belarus over the past day after thwarting 74 attempts on Sunday, Pozirk<\/em>‘s analysis of border guards’ data showed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yesterday, Poland thwarted more than 60 illegal border crossings; Lithuania, 18 and Latvia, four.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Third-country foreigners attempted at least 2,280 illegal border crossings this month, almost 14 percent more than in the same period in July.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since the start of 2024, the EU thwarted at least 27,813 illegal border crossings on its shared border with Belarus, with 23,333 attempts via Poland, 4,028 via Latvia and 452 via Lithuania.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The migration crisis at the Belarusian-EU border started in spring 2021 after Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka, angered by EU sanctions, had indicated that Minsk would not prevent migrants from Africa and Asia from using Belarus as a route to the EU.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In June 2021, the Belarusian government announced the suspension of a readmission agreement with the EU in response to sanctions that followed the forced landing of a Ryanair flight in Minsk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarus\u2019 western neighbors call the migration crisis a \u201chybrid attack\u201d orchestrated by Minsk and Moscow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
