August 28, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> The state Agency of Television News (ATN) <\/em>has announced the launch of the First Information Channel<\/em>, a new news TV station.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The station will be testing “new formats” and broadcasting features, opinions, documentaries and other content.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to launching the channel, the Belarusian State Television and Radio Company (BSTRC) will rebrand its website as NEWS.BY<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The company now runs eight TV channels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Natalla Ejsmant, a spokeswoman for Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka, announced the new channel creation two months ago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ejsmant said she was working on the project with the deputy head of \u0141uka\u0161enka’s administration, U\u0142adzimir Piarco\u016d, BSTRC chairman Ivan Ejsmant and a “pool of executives.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In March 2022, \u0141uka\u0161enka introduced a mandatory fee for advertisers to support state media. In addition, a portion of the VAT collected from data transmission services goes toward state media production.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The government continues to persecute journalists and bloggers. To date, 35 media workers are in prison. Opposition media are outlawed. Exiled newsrooms often work in inadequate conditions and face money problems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
