August 29, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> The human rights group Dissidentby has pointed out the ambiguities in the recent release of political prisoners. Some political prisoners refused to petition Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka for pardon, but authorities released them anyway, it reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Others “fulfilled the conditions,” but authorities left them behind bars, it said. Furthermore, there were cases where officers placed inmates in punishment cells for refusing to petition for pardon, it added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On August 16, Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka signed an edict pardoning 14 women and 16 men convicted of “protest-oriented” crimes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They include seriously ill and retired people, \u0141uka\u0161enka’s press office reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As of tonight, human rights defenders have confirmed the release of 25 of the 30. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
