September 3, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Trade between Belarus and China has increased by 180 percent in the last four years, said Siarhiej Alejinik, chairman of the Standing Committee on International Affairs and National Security of the Council of the Republic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last year, trade totaled more than $8 billion, Alejinik told state media after a meeting with outgoing Chinese Ambassador Xie Xiaoyong at the upper house of the Belarusian National Assembly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOur trade, investment cooperation, technological and industrial cooperation, cooperation in the humanitarian sphere, education, health and culture are developing very dynamically. Almost all areas are covered by contacts and cooperation,\u201d the former diplomat said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Natalla Ka\u010danava, chair of the Council of the Republic, said at the meeting that Belarus and China have identical policies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOur peoples are mentally similar,\u201d she said, according to the press office of the upper house.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ka\u010danava visited China at the end of May.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On August 29, media reported that Xie, 60, was about to complete his stint as ambassador to Belarus, the post he held since 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2021, two-way trade hit a record high of $5.1 billion, with imports at 4.2 billion and exports at $900 billion, the Belarusian embassy in China reported. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2020, bilateral trade totaled $4.6 billion (imports, $3.8 billion; exports, $800 million).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarus has not disclosed trade by country since 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
