September 4, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Russian opposition politician Vladimir Kara-Murza and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz discussed Belarusian political prisoners during a meeting in Berlin yesterday, according to Kara-Murza’s post on Twitter (X).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The politician, whom Russia released from detention in a prisoner swap with the West a month ago, described the discussion as important, detailed and frank. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The two talked about Ukraine, Russia’s present and future, a common Europe and political prisoners who must be freed in Russia and Belarus, he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kara-Murza thanked Scholz for the swap that, according to the Kremlin critic, saved 16 human lives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On August 1, Russia exchanged several opposition and other figures for its nationals jailed abroad. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarus also participated in the swap by handing over Rico Krieger, a German national sentenced to death on charges of mercenarism and covert operations. However, it did not release any dissidents, causing an outcry in the pro-democracy movement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
