September 5, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Poland will keep a buffer zone on its border with Belarus for another 90 days, Polish Interior Minister Tomasz Siemoniak told a press conference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Siemoniak said its introduction has brought positive results, primarily in the fight against smugglers. The countdown begins on September 11, he said, as quoted by Onet.pl<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Poland established the buffer zone on June 13 for 90 days, restricting access to some areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It covers about 61 km of the border under the jurisdiction of the Narewka, Bia\u0142owie\u017ca, Dubicze Cerkiewne, and Czeremcha control posts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The restrictions are aimed at protecting police officers, border guards, and military personnel. According to Polish authorities, they are intended to limit the activities of smuggling groups that facilitate illegal activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In late May and early June, media reported attacks on Polish soldiers and border guards by illegal migrants heading to the European Union (EU) from Belarus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Soldiers have been attacked 50 times on the eastern border recently, President Andrzej Duda told the National Security Council meeting on June 10 in Bia\u0142ystok.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On June 6, the media reported the death of Private Mateusz Sitek, who was stabbed at the Polish border.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A few hours before the stabbing, Polish border guards suffered at the hands of migrants too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Belarusian pro-democracy movement blamed the killing on the Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka regime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The migration crisis at the Belarusian-European border has been ongoing since the spring of 2021. Poland and the Baltic states call it a hybrid attack organized by Minsk and Moscow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
