September 12, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> The European Union (EU) has not allowed at least 187 migrants to enter illegally from Belarus over the past day after thwarting 71 attempts on Tuesday, says Pozirk<\/em>‘s analysis of border guards’ data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Poland thwarted 183 attempts in two days; Latvia, 35; Lithuania, 40. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

From September 1 to 11, the EU stopped 1,362 third-country migrants who wanted to cross illegally from Belarus, 62 percent more than in early August. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lithuania reported a 14-percent increase in the first third of September compared to the whole month of August.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since the start of 2024, the EU thwarted at least 29,743 illegal border crossings on its shared border with Belarus, with 24,923 attempts via Poland, 4,240 via Latvia and 580 via Lithuania.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The migration crisis at the Belarusian-EU border started in spring 2021 after Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka, angered by EU sanctions, had indicated that Minsk would not prevent migrants from Africa and Asia from using Belarus as a route to the EU.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In June 2021, the Belarusian government announced the suspension of a readmission agreement with the EU in response to sanctions that followed the forced landing of a Ryanair flight in Minsk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarus\u2019 western neighbors call the migration crisis a \u201chybrid attack\u201d orchestrated by Minsk and Moscow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
