September 17, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> The prosecutor’s office of the so-called Donetsk People’s Republic has forwarded to court a case against Jan Dziurbiejka, a fighter of the Belarusian volunteer Kastu\u015b Kalino\u016dski Regiment, Russia’s Prosecutor General’s Office reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 28-year-old is \u201ccharged in absentia\u201d with mercenarism for fighting alongside Ukrainian forces against Russia from February to July 2022 and receiving about $3,300 for his services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Russian prosecutors reportedly put Dziurbiejka on an international wanted list.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The whereabouts of Dziurbiejka and another fighter, Siarhiej Dzahcio\u016d, remain unknown after both were captured by Russians near Lysychansk, in the Luhansk region of Ukraine, in late June 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In September 2022, Russian President Vladimir Putin approved the incorporation of Ukraine\u2019s breakaway regions of Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson into Russia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A few days earlier, Russia said it had held referenda in occupied Ukrainian territories.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ukraine, Western countries and the UN have not recognized these decisions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarus has not formally recognized the independence of the breakaway regions and their incorporation into Russia, but Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka has supported Russia\u2019s war on Ukraine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
