September 19, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> On September 23 in Geneva, the United Nations Human Rights Council (HRC) will hold an interactive dialogue on human rights in Belarus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It will feature an “interim oral update” from the high commissioner for human rights on the situation in the country in the run-up to the 2020 presidential election and in its aftermath, the HRC said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Franak Via\u010dorka, chief adviser to \u015aviat\u0142ana Cichano\u016dskaja, told Pozirk<\/em> that the leader of Belarus’ pro-democracy forces will address the council via a video link.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the same day, Belarusian human rights defenders will participate in an event dedicated to the country’s political prisoners, organized by the Lithuanian permanent mission in Geneva on the sidelines, according to Via\u010dorka.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The HRC session is being held from September 9 to October 11. On the last day, delegates are expected to vote for a candidate to analyze human rights in Belarus at the United Nations. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nils Mui\u017enieks, a former Council of Europe rights commissioner, is favorite to be elected as special rapporteur on Belarus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
