September 23, Pozirk<\/em>. <\/strong>Politically-motivated reprisals in Belarus have picked up pace since early September, BySol co-founder Andrej Stry\u017eak has said on Telegram, citing the surge in assistance requests of up to 80 percent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Requests range from evacuation assistance to legal help in politically-motivated cases, he noted. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The activist linked the trend to the authorities\u2019 “new hybrid approach” to reprisals, featuring pardons of some political prisoners along with new waves of politically-motivated harassment. Law enforcers may also be working on new databases that accumulated over the summer vacations, he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The interior ministry’s organized crime units in Brest and Hrodna resort to violence during arrests, Stry\u017eak noted, citing testimony from people applying for help.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Law enforcers are particularly interested in those who gave interviews to independent media outlets after 2020, he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
