September 23, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> The information ministry has denounced Lithuania’s decision to block 18 YouTube channels by the Belarusian state-run media outlets as censorship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Minsk described the move as \u201canother unfriendly step aimed at limiting the access of Lithuanian people to alternative and reliable information.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last week, YouTube granted Vilnius\u2019 request to block broadcasts by the Belarusian propaganda media sanctioned by the European Union.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Restrictions affected YouTube channels by Belarus’ ATN <\/em>news agency, leading TV channels and their regional branches as well as several radio stations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Belarusian pro-democracy forces are grateful to Lithuania for pioneering such a step and hope that propaganda channels will be banned in all other countries, opposition politician Franak Via\u010dorka told Pozirk<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Over the past few years, democratic countries have imposed multiple restrictions on Belarus over human rights abuses, alleged vote rigging in the 2020 presidential election, a brutal crackdown on protesters, the forced landing of a Ryanair flight, a migration crisis at the European Union border, as well as Minsk\u2019s support of Russia’s war on Ukraine.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
