September 24, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka has announced an intense scrutiny of security forces, his press office reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The move comes less than one year before Belarus\u2019 presidential election.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He told military officials at the Abuz-Lasno\u016dski training range in the Brest region to bring the army “into an ideal state while we have social unity and discipline.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“It will be a toughest test for the military across the board,” he said. “Not only the army, but also MVD [the Ministry of Internal Affairs] and the Committee for State Security.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earlier, he ordered officials to keep track of officers who served with elite police units. “We will check all these units soon,” he said. \u201cWhy I insist on it? That special training cost us a lot,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He also urged hunters\u2019 association to form an armed unit. “Where can we get better snipers than theirs?” he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On April 28, former Interior Minister Ihar \u0160unievi\u010d, in charge of the association, said the number of people applying for training as snipers exceeded his expectations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Under law, the 7th presidential election must be held no later than July 20, 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
