September 27, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> The TG House Belarus has reported mass reprisals against members of the LGBTQ community. Police have carried out searches and opened criminal cases. At least eight transgender people were arrested in September. Two were charged with producing and distributing pornography, Na\u0161a Niva<\/em> reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a separate development, a man was arrested for participating in post-election protests. Police released a video of him saying he joined the crowd out of curiosity and accidentally walked onto the road. The video contained his photos in a group of protesters at Independence Avenue in Minsk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another man said on camera that he subscribed to “extremist channels” and, in an intoxicated state, posted calls for slaughtering police, the head of state and his family members. The man’s condition and charges are unknown, Mediazona<\/em> reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Police also arrested a friend of the man who had stabbed and wounded police in Mahilo\u016d earlier this week. Police said they seized firearms, ammunition, explosives and drugs found in his home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On September 25, the Babrujsk and Babrujsk District Court, Mahilo\u016d region, considered changing the detention conditions for political prisoner Siarhiej Duma\u016d, sentenced to nine years in a penal colony, Viasna reported. The decision is unknown. Duma\u016d was arrested in March 2021 and later convicted of rioting and damaging property.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The trial of Volha \u0141ocmanava opened at the Minsk City Court. Law enforcers arrested her during a raid on INeedHelpBY campaigners, who used the Edasta\u016dka service to send food to political prisoners’ families. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

She is charged with supporting extremism. Human rights defenders say her persecution is politically motivated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Court of Pinsk and the Pinsk District, Brest region, began the trial of journalist Ja\u016dhien Nika\u0142ajevi\u010d, the Belarusian Association of Journalists reported. He is charged with violent disorder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alaksiej Kireje\u016d, a political prisoner released last month, said that Alaksandar Fiaduta, an outspoken critic of the government serving a long term for alleged conspiracy to overthrow Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka, has lost 30 kg of weight. The penal colony administration has banned other inmates from talking to Fiaduta, Kireje\u016d told Radyjo Svaboda<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As of September 27, human rights defenders identified at least 1,323 political prisoners but the real number is considerably higher because many cases go undocumented.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarusian authorities have arrested about 65,000 people for political reasons in the four years since the August 2020 presidential election, Viasna reported in early August.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
